Expert Note
Includes a Special Note from Bullying Prevention Scholar Dr. Chad Rose
Patch Work includes a special note from bullying-prevention scholar Dr. Chad A. Rose, professor and Director of the Bullying Prevention Center at the University of South Carolina. For more than 20 years, Dr. Rose has studied how schools and communities can help children feel safe, valued, and included. His research shows that early conversations about kindness, belonging, friendship, and self-confidence matter.
Why Craig Wrote This Book
A personal story with a message for every child
Craig wrote Patch Work: Bee Brave. Bee Kind. Bee You. to share a message that is deeply personal to him: you should never have to hide what you love in order to belong.
Long before Southern Charm and Sewing Down South, Craig was a kid who knew what it felt like to be picked on. Over time, sewing became more than a hobby — it became a way to create, connect, and feel like himself again.
With his debut children’s book, Craig hopes to give children a story that reminds them their differences are not something to hide. They can be brave. They can be kind. And they can be proud of who they are.
"This book is really personal to me. Growing up, I didn’t always feel like I fit perfectly into one box, and I know so many kids feel that way too. With Patch Work: Bee Brave. Bee Kind. Bee You., I wanted to create a story that reminds children that the things that make them different are also what make them special. My hope is that kids feel seen when they read it — and that it encourages them to be a little braver, a little kinder, and proud to be exactly who they are."
— Craig
